The sky was dark and the street lights were lit.
Today, it was Liu’s turn to pick up Zhang Zian. He was in a good mood, laughing and talking during the drive. However, he could tell that something was bothering Zhang Zian, whose expression seemed gloomy.
Liu was not sure what Zhang Zian was upset about, but he couldn’t ask him bluntly, so he had think of jokes to try to ease the mood.
When the car arrived at the pet shop, Zhang Zian took off with Famous. Just when Xiao Liu was about to leave, Zhang Zian knocked on the window.
“Liu, are you busy today? I have something I want to discuss with you. If you aren’t in a rush, why don’t you stay for dinner?” Zhang Zian invited him.
Zhang Zian had invited him over before, but he had always declined because he didn’t’ want to disturb Zhang Zian. Since Zhang Zian looked very worried today, Liu hesitated for a moment and said smiling, “I’d love to accompany you, Zhang.”
“Yiyun, are you still here?” Zhang Zian knocked on the cashier’s desk, startling Lu Yiyun who had been focused on painting.
“Oh my god! It’s so late!” Lu Yiyun began to pack up her things in a hurry and told Zhang Zian all the important things that happened in the store today. Nothing important actually happened, she just made a fuss over them.
“You won’t get paid for overtime, but dinner is on me.” Zhang Zian made a phone call and ordered food for the three of them. He had intended to order beer, but considering that Xiao Liu needed to drive later, he forgot about the idea.
This was the first time Liu came into the pet shop. He was dazzled by the variety of cats and dogs, and array of food basins on the shelves in the shop.
A moment later, Uncle Li delivered the food and left in a hurry.
“Mr. Store Manager, I’m leaving now. See you tomorrow! Thank you for your dinner!” Lu Yiyun put on her coat and scarf, wrapping herself like a bear that was going into hibernation. She left staggeringly with her food in her hand. Jasmine stuck its head out from her backpack and yawned lazily.
“Liu, come eat the food while it’s still hot.”
Zhang Zian and Liu quietly filled their stomachs.
After dinner, Zhang Zian put down his chopsticks. Liu knew he had something to say, so he listened carefully.
Zhang Zian sighed and told Liu everything he saw and heard today, including Feng Xuan’s intentions, the harm that Tibetan Mastiffs have caused in the Tibetan areas, and Old Yang’s proposed idea. He also showed Liu some screenshots he took of the video.
The more Liu listened, the more excited he grew. When Zhang Zian finished talking, he suddenly stood up and shouted, “Zhang, let’s do this! Even if Big Teeth can’t fulfill the task, I’ll let Red Dragon shoot the scene! Should Red Dragon fail, I’ll let Prince do it!”
Zhang Zian asked, “Aren’t you worried that Red Dragon will get hurt?”
Liu gritted his teeth and said, “I am worried! I am so worried that I feel like I might die! But since we are the people’s police, the safety of people’s lives and property must be the top priority. If, as Director Feng suggests, this movie can spark society’s concern about the issue of Tibetan Mastiffs and can stop the suffering of the people in the west, we should be willing to take part in this good cause even if Red Dragon and Prince die in the process. Wang might not be here, but I can speak for him!”
Ever since he watched Cui Yi and Storm say goodbye at the gate of the base, Zhang Zian had never been more certain of the affection the dog trainers had for their police dogs. They loved their dogs so much, but for the safety of the people, they were willing to let their dogs risk their lives.
Zhang Zian nodded, “I see. I believe you.”
Liu rubbed his hands, itching for a fight. “Besides, Red Dragon is very capable. It always placed first in all of our bite training exercises I don’t believe it will lose to a stray dog from the west!”
Zhang Zian smiled silently. Liu had confidence in his dog, and Red Dragon was indeed tough and strong, but that Mastiff King arose from a mountain of corpses. It possessed a murderous look that the police dogs didn’t have. The confidence Liu had was based on the fact that he hadn’t personally seen the Mastiff King.
Police dogs were trained to target human beings. Their goals were to bite the wrists, arms, and legs of humans so that their target’s movements were restrained and were harmed without lethal consequences. However, when the Mastiff King opened its mouth, it would attack its target in the back of the neck. Once bitten by the Mastiff King, there was no chance of the rival fighting back. Even if by the time the pyrotechnician shot the Mastiff King with an anesthetic, the police dogs would have been severely wounded .
“Zhang, is that why you are unhappy? It’s okay. Wang and I can take a vacation. Just tell me what day you need to deal with that stray dog and we will ask for that day off. You take us into the crew, and we will direct Red Dragon and Prince on our own. I guarantee you that they will bite that stray dog!” Liu patted his chest to ensure Zhang Zian.
“OK,” Zhang Zian agreed, “I’ll tell you in advance.”
“It’s getting late, Zhang. I should go and let you rest. I will discuss with Xiao Wang and think of tactics for those days! I guarantee you that stray dog will be bitten so badly that it will beg its papa for mercy!” Liu said goodbye to him.
Zhang Zian laughed, “I don’t want a dog to be my son!”
Zhang Zian sent Liu outside and watched him drive away. Then he returned to the shop, pulled down the shutter door, and ended the business day.
“Famous, what’s your decision?”
Zhang Zian stood in front of Famous, squatted down and looked at its eyes.
Famous said firmly, “Don’t let Red Dragon or Prince or Big Teeth do it. Let me deal with that Mastiff King.”
“Are you sure? It’s very dangerous.” Zhang Zian confirmed. “Are you sure this is really necessary for the movie?”
“I’m sure!” said Famous, “This is not about the movie. As Liu said, we are doing this for the people in Tibet. For the many children suffering from hydatid disease, or chased and bitten by stray dogs on their way to school.”
It knew this was dangerous, but it knew in its heart that it had to do this.
Did Audrey Hepburn feel the same way when she decided to go to Africa to help the starving children? She was willing to burn herself to light up the darkness.
It was not afraid of death, it had experienced countless deaths in the black box. The most important thing was, whether it could die with no regret in its heart.
Zhang Zian sighed and did not say anything. He wanted to help the people in the west, but he did not want to make Famous fight a hopeless battle and sacrifice itself.
“Famous, until you prove that you can definitely beat the Mastiff King, I will not let you do this.”
Famous glanced at him deeply and said, “I will prove it to you.”
