Chapter 1210: Run for Their Lives

Under the attack of the mosquito army, the intimidating Fina, mature Old Time Tea, collected Famous, and chatty Vladimir were all forced to be frantically fleeing subjects.
They called out for help at first, but they ended up not even daring to open their mouths. The moment they did, hundreds of mosquitoes might just rush in. And it wasn’t just their mouths—they didn’t even dare to open their eyes too wide, as the mosquitoes might try to get underneath their eyelids!
Even the invisible Richard had been eyed by a small ball of mosquitoes. None of the warm-blooded animals were able to escape the mosquitoes’ warm-blood radar at all.
Richard flapped its wings frantically in an attempt to escape but spread its smell out even more. Especially that butt that it never wiped clean helped the mosquitoes to confirm their target’s location even better, and they made use of the small window of time when it was flapping its wings to squeeze underneath to its armpit area. That part had lesser feathers and was suitable for blood-sucking.
“Gah gah! Do you think I’m easy to bully? I’m usually vegetarian, but I’m feasting on meat today!” Richard purposefully called loudly, even opening its beak to peck at the mosquitoes swarming around its head. It did take the lives of a few mosquitoes due to how densely packed they were, but it had shed its cloak of invisibility due to its attack and ended up getting swarmed by even more mosquitoes.
Fina, Old Time Tea, Famous, and Vladimir all had a set of powerful skills, but they were just as flustered as Richard. It just further proved that using a cannon to kill mosquitoes was a waste of energy.
No matter how they swatted at them, the mosquitoes would always come back seconds later just as intensely. They might be able to kill tens of mosquitoes in one swat, but this was just a drop in the ocean compared to the tens of thousands of mosquitoes attacking them right now. They might collapse of tiredness before they could kill all the mosquitoes and end up as dried meat from being sucked dry...
They weren’t able to have one second of breath, since these desert mosquitoes were too powerful. If there wasn’t a good location to suck their blood, they might even land on fur, finding their way through their coats until their proboscis was able to inject into their skin and suck up their blood.
Galaxy had it the easiest out of all the elfins. The other elfins’ pride had led them to choose not to back away when the mosquitoes first attacked them—they put out their claws to defend. But when the mosquitoes came flying towards Galaxy, it chose to run without a moment’s hesitation.
“Meow! Meow!”
It ran around in circles at a speed that could rival light, insisting that as long as it ran fast enough, the mosquitoes wouldn’t be able to catch up to it.
In the midst of the mess, Zhang Zian stood there, stock-still, like a statue.
He didn’t have a thick coat to protect him like the elfins did, and he was right at the peak of his health. He should’ve been the prime target for the mosquitoes to feast on. He should’ve been the one who was getting bitten the worst, and the mosquito army did treat him as their biggest target. But weirdly, the mosquitoes would automatically move away after flying towards him, like a wave that met reef rocks. They would instead go around him and fly towards the elfins instead to attack them.
What was going on? Why were the mosquitoes not biting him?
Could it be...that they were afraid of the blood of the ancient gods that he actually had in his veins or the golden finger that defeated all other moves?
If not that, then what?
The intense sun had caused a thin layer of sweat to form on all his skin, more sweat dripping off his forehead. He wiped it off casually, taking a whiff of the faint minty smell on the back of his hand.
It had been almost half an hour since he had applied the cooling oil, and he had long forgotten about it. Thinking about it more now...could it be...that the Pinduoduo version of the best-seller cooling oil had mosquito-repellent properties?
These scarily cheap fake goods with unknown ingredients actually had such amazing effects? It seemed to be even more effective than the original version of the cooling ointment. God only knew what weird things they’d mixed into that!
Seeing that the elfins were all getting tired out, he had no more time to think about it. He took out the box of cooling ointment, applying even more onto every single inch of exposed skin.
He screamed, “Let go of those elfins! Come at me!” He gathered his courage before rushing into the sea of mosquitoes.
If he’d guessed wrongly and angered the mosquitoes, then he would just be mosquito food for a day. But miracles happened—no matter where he went, the mosquitoes got out of the way like he was Moses and they were the Red Sea.
Seeing that the effect was great, he felt much more relaxed, chasing away the mosquitoes with his limbs flailing everywhere, like a superhero in a comic where they defeated ten thousand enemies.
“Come to my side, quick!”
He retreated as he fought the mob, finally opening a path for all of them. He backed himself into the SUV, opening the door and signaling for all of the elfins to rush into the car to hide from the mosquitoes. He even applied the cooling oil all over the door and the surrounding areas to prevent the mosquitoes from coming in.
The elfins were all confused from the fight with the mosquitoes. They didn’t know how he’d done it, but they all perked up.
“Retreat first! I’ll take the rear!”
Old Time Tea let the other elfins go first while he stayed at the back, using its front paw to swipe at the sand and sending a curtain of sand to block the mosquitoes’ relentless chase for a split second.
There was no time for pleasantries now. Old Time Tea’s hat and robes provided it with an extra layer of protection against the mosquitoes too.
The other elfins rushed to the door of the car, leaping in one by one. Old Time Tea was the last to join them.
Zhang Zian had already turned the car on, and he quickly closed the door and slammed on the accelerator, using the fastest speed possible to rush out of that area. No matter how powerful the mosquitoes of the deserts were, they were no match for a car.
The elfins were all still distraught from the fight, panting as they tried to catch their breath.
“I have sailed the great oceans and come back safely, but just now I nearly drowned in a mere drain...” Old Time Tea commented, the danger of the events not leaving its thoughts.
“What the meow!” Vladimir looked into the rearview mirror. “I can’t believe we accidentally entered the ambush of the devils. Just wait. When I have united all of Egypt’s stray cats, I will definitely come back here to eliminate all of these pests!”
“Gah gah! Why is this idiot not afraid of the mosquitoes?” Richard flapped, landing on his shoulder after floundering.
Zhang Zian turned to sneak a look. “Holy sh*t! Who are you? Since when did we get a cockatoo?”
Richard had a huge bump on its forehead, its feathers in a mess after the fight, looking much like the Old Man of the South Pole from the ancient paintings. It didn’t even look like an African grey now. It looked more like the blue-eyed cockatoo.
“Shut up! Look at the road, you idiot! Stop looking at me!” Richard raised a claw to press onto his cheek, forcing his face forward instead.
Famous took a whiff, and when its sharp nose picked up the strong scent of cooling oil on him, it had an epiphany. “Is this the stuff that previously...”
“Yes.” Zhang Zian fished out the several boxes of cooling ointment from his pocket, throwing them into the glove compartment. “I didn’t think this stuff would be so powerful either. I wanted to sell it off cheap initially, but it looks like it is still useful!”
