The Assassin's Enemy Lover

Chapter 31

But today something was off. Instead, he felt like he was being stared at by a snow monster freezing his body with its menacing eyes. He felt a chill spread from the top of his head to his toes his blood running cold.

Unable to bear such freezing temperatures he struggled to open his eyes and wake up. As the fog in his eyes from the sleepiness dispersed he saw a figure staring right at him with a gaze so chilling it could freeze his soul. The snow monster had followed him out of the dream.

“Ah! Shit!,” he swore followed by a loud thud that made even Zi Xingxi grimace. Her son had fallen off the bed with his tooshie hitting the floor hard.

Zi Han’s fluffy head of hair popped up as he sat up straight and stared at his mother like an angry little kitten. “Ma, why are you still here?” he asked trying to be as respectful as possible and not escalate things.

Zi Xingxi’s expression turned darker as she held out his light brain which she had eventually managed to get after so much hardship. Please don’t ask how difficult it was. It seemed she put more work into getting his light brain than she does in an entire month.

“Who is Ira?” she asked making Zi Han feel like a live lobster being thrown into a hot pot.

“Seriously? She is just someone on Starnet I normally go on missions with in the simulator that’s all. My turn... why are you looking through my light brain?” he asked still sitting on the floor keeping a safe distance from her.

“Just someone, really? Is she just someone you go get virtual ice cream with? You didn’t even tell me you were dating,” she whispered angrily but if one listens carefully she sounded a little aggrieved.

.....

Zi Han pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration before explaining in detail, “She invited me there and I thought we were going to discuss the dual tournament Interplanetary Virtual Mech War.”

“Instead she told me she was interested in me and I rejected her... If anything I am the one who suffered losses. She blocked me right after and I couldn’t find a new partner in time. I had to forfeit.”

“Aww....,” she said while patting her son’s head. She found it funny he was more upset about a silly virtual mech battle instead of the real thing.

Pat pat pat.

“Don’t be sad. I will take out Chronos for you, okay?” she said trying to comfort him but who knew this little brat would take advantage.

“Well, if you leave me alone with Chronos for one hour I will forget that you invaded my privacy and looked through my light brain?” he said with puppy dog eyes that made him seem innocent.

Chronos:???

“Aish..... you are just like your father. You two didn’t even meet but you behave the same way,” she said getting off the bed, “and for your own information your alarm was ringing but you wouldn’t wake up so I opened it to turn off the alarm and the screen happened to open your starnet account. Pure coincidence.....”

Zi Han, “....”

“So my light brain happened to scroll itself through six apps before coincidentally opening my starnet account and landing on that old chat log? It’s either my light brain is haunted or you did it?” he said refuting her.

“Of course, it’s haunted,” she said throwing a pillow at him, “now get ready. You are going to meet your grandfather in a couple of hours.” After saying this she walked toward the door only for Zi Han to stop her.

“Ma,” he called out with his hand stretched out.

“What?” said the embarrassed Zi Xingxi as she turned to look at him. When she saw his outstretched arm she was a little confused. That’s when she glanced down and saw she was still holding his light brain.

Zi Xingxi, “???”

She wordlessly handed it to him her ears flushed with humiliation. She had not only been caught snooping but she had also subconsciously taken his device with her.

“Go take a shower,” she said before leaving her son’s cabin in a hurry. ‘That’s so fuckin embarrassing,’ she said to herself as she walked over to her cabin.

“Of course it is. Even I am embarrassed for you master,” said Chronos bouncing around her.

“Scram!” she yelled while clenching her fists. You know you fucked up when even an AI feels ashamed for you.

Zi Han slowly got up as he tossed the light brain on the bed. His mind was a hot mess not because his mother was snooping in his light brain but because he was about to meet the legendary leader of the Bloodgarde and to think that man was his grandfather.

It would be safe to say that he was star-struck. “It will be fine..... I will be fine, right?” he said as he squeezed the bottle of shampoo.

As he lathered his hair he discovered a major problem. What was he going to wear? Should he wear a hoity-toity outfit? But the only formal clothes he has were from when he was ten years old. It was for the mother and son dance at school.

Of course, he had grown taller since then and wouldn’t be able to fit his limbs in those tiny pants. Just imagining it made him shake his head in disappointment.

“Tsk, damnit.....,” he said as he massaged his scalp, “I should have at least gotten a haircut..... ah fuck.” The unexpected swear was because he had somehow managed to get shampoo into his eye.

After washing his eye with copious amounts of water he took a look at the shampoo bottle and yelled, “Seriously?” Who would have thought the moment his mother changed his shampoo from the tear-free one (meant for babies) like he asked for he would get stung in the eye.

He had made such a big fuss about him being a big man now only to get shampoo in his eye. He could already see his mother gloating while yelling, “I told you so!”
